Getting Treated Like CRAP at the RACHEL RAY Show

I attended a taping of the Rachel Ray Show last week and let me tell you: this was a nightmare. Once we actually got into the studio and the cameras were rolling, things were O.K., but Oh My God…what an ordeal just to get your butt into one of those 124 turquoise plastic seats on the giant lazy susan platform that rotates the audience around to whatever set Rachel is taping on. Off camera (and on), the chunky, plucky Rachel seems nice enough (she's Miss Personality on camera), but her staff and the treatment of her studio audience was the worst I have ever experienced. I’ve been to most of the shows that record in NYC and LA (Regis, Ellen, Letterman, Martha, Rosie O’Donnell’s old show, etc.) and I’ve never been searched so thoroughly, treated so rudely or made to wait for so long. We arrived at 9:30am (our ticket said “ticket holders check-in at 10:15 am) and we waited ON THE STREET (like we were waiting for tickets to a Springsteen concert) for TWO HOURS before they let us into the building. We were sent thru the obligatory metal detector, and in order to finally get up to the 6th floor studio, we waited in a tiny lobby for an elevator, which only took 6 people at a time. Meanwhile the other elevator next to us was kept vacant “for staff use”….every 10 minutes, some “staff” member in a t shirt or shorts would use the elevator to come outside to smoke or fetch something. Otherwise, the elevator sat unused and we all waited to ascend to the 6th floor in the only elevator open to us. Every time somebody inquired as to why we couldn’t do this quicker by using BOTH elevators, staff members responses ranged from curt to downright nasty, as if they were talking to someone who doesn’t really matter at all. This totally pissed me off, especially after having been treated so nicely at Ellen DeGeneres, Regis & Kelly and Letterman. Friends of mine who have attended OPRAH tapings said that since “Rachel Ray” is an OPRAH production, this is where the rudeness comes from.
When we finally reached the 6th floor at 12:30 pm (after arriving at 9:30 am!!!) we were ushered into a tiny room with complimentary snacks, but told strictly not to bring anything into the studio, even though the staff, I observed, stands around munching their lavish goodies from the Kraft services table, located just outside the studio. At one point, I left the tiny room to head to the men’s room down the hall and was told to “FREEZE” by a nervous production assistant. “He’s got a bottle of water…can he bring that to the men’s room?” she said to some other higher up P.A. I said “this is a complimentary bottle of water from the waiting room”…finally it was decided that I could bring the half-finished bottle of water into the men’s room. After quite a long wait, the staff “warm up comic” comes into the tiny room and tells us the “rules.” Stand when I tell you, sit when I tell you, laugh when I tell you, clap & scream when I tell you.” He then tells us a few lame jokes which he probably tells to every group of suckers--sorry, audience members.)
Finally they let us into the hallowed ground….the STAGE, with the rotating audience platform. The one-hour show took nearly two hours to tape with all the stops and starts, Rachel’s costume changes, and the comic’s Catskill-style schtick. Sally Field was the first guest (it was the Mother’s Day show) and she seemed like a warm, genuine person. She and Rachel had a nice, long chat. The rest of the show was downhill after that…lots of cooking which we can’t see from the audience with all the cameras blocking us and a few more segments to shoot. We were released approx. 3pm, but didn’t make it downstairs until after 3pm. HOORAY…FREE AT LAST after over 6 hours there to tape a ONE hour show and being treated like excrement the whole time. The moral? Think carefully before you decide to attend a taping of the RACHEL RAY show on East 44th street in New York City.

Met her once. She was a real tool. Food Network would be better off letting this one go home and eat herself to into oblivion. Will not watch her show EVER.

Not surprising, many celebrities are not what they represent on TV. Think many are Narcissistic hence their treatment of the fans whom without they would be nothing. I have heard Rachel is not nice especially to her fans...shame but whatever. Ive been to her show an experienced the long wait an bad treatment to her audience yet she has her loyal fans....I however am not...

I have a friend who attended one of her tapings and said that when the cameras are off, she is a completely different person...and not in a good way. The word my friend used rhymes with itch and starts with a b! She said that Rachel was so mean and condescending to her staff during commercial breaks, and she never once really acknowledged or spoke to the audience.
What a sad legacy to leave behind! Yes, she is making tons of money, but is that how she wants to be remembered by people??? Truly sad!
Snowflakes always seem to think they matter, you're nobodies, you don't deserve anything shut up.

Rachel Ray, has got to be the rudest person, who claims to be the best cook. Every guest that comes to her show to cooks, she takes over. Can’ t stand to watch . Rude, RudeRude. She and her husband look like alcohol addicts. Please can some one remove her. She is a disgrace to the cooking world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😢😢😢🤭🤭🤭
You can tell that there is something wrong with her. On a couple of shows of 3o Minute meals, she was just so cold and wasn't smiling. It was as if she wasn't on an entertainment tv show, just cooking at home cooking and mad at her husband or something.
And on one of her shows she admitted that one of her friends told her that on Tv, it just looks weird if you are not smiling.

She is loud, obnoxious and just plain rude to guests! Always butting in on experts like she knows more than the expert does. Wonder if she reads her review!

I looked on this and other sites just to see if I was being unfair to this cook by noticing that she is so rude to everyone she has on her show. However, I have to say that I basically stopped watching her show this week when I just couldn't' take seeing her mistreat yet another guest. The ego's of some of these television people are just out of control. She doesn't even allow her guests to speak or finish a sentence and even takes over their presentation and finishes their recipe. This week she pulled a real "mean girl" act, and just as the guest was about to show you how she made a rose out of bacon or something, Rachael did it ahead of her and that was it for the guests presentation. I know the guest must look forward to their moments to shine on a cooking show, but this host will never allow that. I also noticed that she doesn't pull the same crap on the rich, famous, or powerful guests that she does on newcomers or possible future chefs. Very sad. Someone pointing a camera at you doesn't make you different than you already are and on this show, the real Rachael is revealed. Get over yourself, making burgers ain't that big of a deal, Missy. My New Year's rEsolution is to turn off any television shows that are offensive or show meanness and unkindness to others. I feel better already.

I never was able to watch her show due to my job but I have since changed career and have the option of watching. I have tried to watch many times and find her probably the most annoying person I have seen. First of all she looks like a slub most of the time and I find it hard to believe because she has “staff”. Now, I’m not saying she needs to be a
princess but my my.... looking like she does just is bad! That hair!! Just nasty!
Secondly and probably the most important....RUDE!!! So rude!!! Always interrupts, always makes it about her or her family. Listen to her....she knows everything, done everything. I laugh when someone talks about there children...she has no clue what she even says!
I could go on and on but I won’t. I would never waist my time watching this show and it should be canceled and she should stick to her cookbooks. Ick

I have read many things about her. and than she was on TV doing a virtual because of Covid. Well the make up was off and the real her was showing wow she is caked up with make up on the
show, and her husband asked her repeat a Mexican ingredient name over again a bit She just call him an A hole on TV. What these people are like on TV is not at all who they really are
in real life. they are totally different. And what they look like with out make up on is too.
I have read that many of them are stuck up and very nasty. I met a TV star when I was a kid and this man was really nasty.

I don’t watch her show but was home and the previous show was over, so she was on. I’m thinking is something wrong with her, she looks like somethings off. Like she’s drunk or I don’t maybe that’s just how she acts. Weird...Ans she seems like a not so nice person and fake.

reading all of these comments were refreshing telling it like it is. She is so obnoxious and I kind of question her fans/followers as she could care less about them. She is a mess, alcohol and food I assume. Clothes awful with cuffs dragging through food she is preparing and over prepares and makes me sick to see the portions. Like feeding giants, over kill. Messy kitchen, messy food that she thinks makes it look good with her randome flower petals thrown about. Hubby needs to cleanup and they could both use a little scrubbing, wash their hair.
Anyway, good to get off my chest. She needs to be controlled and be professional or so rich go off TV. Maybe? good idea!

Thanks for this...interesting to hear about your experience at Rachel Rays taping. I have watched her show many times and am frankly astounded at her behavior! I do not understand why she has guests on the show. WHY???? She asks them questions and answers herself. They try to demonstrate a recipe and she takes over. She is an expert at everything. Wish I was that smart. The audience clap and cheer for the most banal things...her adding garlic to a recipe. I am not joking. The worst and most cringy moments are the way she treats "her husband". My goodness, that man is whipped! He aways looks terrified. She makes it clear on many occasions that it is her kitchen, so we can all go to hell. Also whats with repeating the same stories over and over and over.

Hey, What’s up with Rachel’s hair. It was sticking up in one side and the whole back side was all wavy and frizzy like she did even bother to fix it. I told my husband if I make through the show it only because I’m pointing out to my husband how terrible the look. Those glasses on her face look like Harry Kerry’s hopefully you guy know what I’m talking about. Anyway, I something has to be wrong with both of them. He sticks around probably because he would have nothing. Out of work musician. I wonder if anybody pitches them quarters because they already look homeless. I don’t think I’d be so harsh, but she looks and acts awfully rude, and I’m just not interested or show. Guys!!! It time to remove her.

Baconslammakingpoppinfresh (December 28, 2017): "Snowflakes always seem to think they matter, you're nobodies, you don't deserve anything shut up."

I know I'm over a decade late to this party (especially when it comes to replying to this one particularly childish comment), but WOW! Granted, I'm not surprised that Rachael Ray would have one of her mindless, suck-up fangirls go out of her way to defend her precious culinary goddess with pejoratives and other petty, unsolicited insults as well as with equally lazy grammar. Seriously, though, Bacon, learn how punctuation works (especially periods) the next time you decide to make a fool of yourself on the Internet for all to read. That said, I never realized until just now that any of said fangirls would go full pseudo-alpha male in the process of their doing so.

NEWSFLASH, BACONSLAMMAKINGPOPPINFRESH: If it weren't for "nobodies" supporting public figures financially for their products or other extensions of their brand name (e.g., live shows), said public figures would be "nobodies" themselves and as such wouldn’t be enjoying all the fame and fortune they’ve come to garner from the lower-profiled public masses to which they themselves would belong. Jim’s not out of line at all, then, in expecting Rachael to show some gratitude, humility, and simple respect and decency towards the members of her audience for paying their hard-earned money for their tickets to see her work her culinary “magic,” as per her gig. After all, as playwright Wilson Mizner once said in 1932, "Be kind to everyone on the way up; you'll meet the same people on the way down." That in mind, I’m stunned that Rachael’s even on the air yet in 2023, considering how well-documented she is for treating her staff, her audience, and even her own husband like utter trash for all the support they’ve given her. Personally, this snotty, ungrateful, unprofessional slob should have long been blacklisted by now so that someone with higher qualifications, a better head on his/her/their shoulders, and a more pleasant personality could enjoy the success she’s had handed to her for whatever reason I can’t see for the life of me, and creeps like you would have long slithered back into whatever holes you’d crawled out from under and stayed there like the “nobodies” you yourselves are.

Oh, and great use of the term “snowflake,” too. Yeah…I’ve never heard that one before [/rollseyes].
@JimDykes: To think, too, that even in 2023, Rachael Ray's still stinking up the airwaves with her big mouth; bad attitude; sloppy hair and dress; sub-par food (according to some. I've never tried any of her recipes, nor do I want to.); and apparent obsession with the word "literally," the lattermost of which she's rarely (if ever) been called out for up until fairly recently (i.e., the late 2010s to early 2020s). Considering how long she's been on the air, too, and as such has plenty to look back on and witness with her own eyes and ears, you'd think that she'd notice her own bad habits and try to fix them now (at the VERY latest) before they all finally catch up to her and she ends up losing whatever "empire," for lack of a better term, she's built up for herself over her many years. Two problems, though:

1. Too many people having supported her for too long unconditionally with too few people having the backbone and the brains to call her out for her crap...and almost never directly to boot.

2. She simply doesn't care. Never has, never will. She's rich and famous now, and that's all that has ever mattered to her in the past and all that matters to her now.
